1. Sign up. Sign up for the award no later than the end of your seventh term* at Carleton by completing the ‘Sign Up’ form on the Hyme Loss for Global Engagement page, also linked here.
  2. Language. Complete at least one course beyond the Carleton language requirement—in the same language as the requirement or in a new one.
  3. Cultural Immersion. Complete at least two of the following:
    • An internationally or globally focused internship or practicum (including global-local connections).
    • An internationally-focused learning project (including certain ACE experiences, fellowships, etc.)
    • A substantial internationally-focused service project (including non-Carleton projects during summer or winter break).
    • A full term (trimester or semester) of off-campus study (domestic or international). Two of such OCS programs would also fulfill the cultural immersion requirement.
  4. Cross-Cultural Learning on Campus. Participate in at least ten CGRS-approved events in Northfield (such as talks, films, concerts, etc.) from the time of your sign-up.
    • You can include a maximum of three per term, as these should be spread across your Carleton career.
    • You may include events required for a class, though we would prefer these be kept to a minimum. Language club activities normally would not count.
    • You will document your attendance at these events through a short review uploaded to a Moodle site as well as a photo of yourself at the event; these can be incorporated in your ePortfolio.
  5. ePortfolio. Complete CCST 398 (2 credits), including a web-based ePortfolio and a reflective essay (normally taken in the junior or senior year).

* Current seniors interested in completing the award program should contact the CGRS Director Asuka Sango.
