The CGRS is keen to bring faculty together in both formal and informal settings. We organize a variety of events, including a series of encounters among members of Area Studies departments and programs. We also sponsor reading groups that bring together faculty and staff in the discussion of global connections.
The best workshops and reading groups are ones that spring directly from faculty interest. If you have an idea for a discussion you’d like to encourage, please contact us. Workshops and reading groups do not need to be an open call to all members of the community; we understand that it’s often useful to narrow the focus. Thus, we can help to bring together small, hand-picked groups — just as we can help to advertise broader topics for larger groups.
We can also provide stipends for participants (and directors), as well as monies for books, refreshments, etc.
In short: don’t be shy!
