Back to Glory and the Human Body: Discussing War (Anti) Heroism - A Panel Discussion
This multidisciplinary panel discusses classical and modern representations of warfare, concentrating especially on how cinema has narrated war both as a physical experience affecting the body and also as an inner emotional journey, whose depths are harder to share. By commenting on different movie clips, ranging from American Sniper to Brothers in Arms and Masters of the Air, this panel will problematize the notion of glory and “heroism,” showcasing how communication is crucial, not only for commemorating war deaths, but also to open up new discussions and rediscovering our shared humanity.
Panelists include:
Marco Mondini, Associate Professor of History of Conflicts, University of Padua
Cecilia Cozzi, Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics, Carleton College
Paul Petzschmann, Sr. Lecturer and Director of European Studies, Carleton College
Summer Forester, Associate Professor of Political Science, Carleton College
This event is co-sponsored by CCST, Classics, EthICs, European Studies, History, Humanities Center, MARS, and Poli Sci.
This event is open to the Carleton community. A OneCard is required in order to enter the LDC.
