Located in the heart of Northfield’s vibrant downtown, the Mercado Local is a nonprofit market, art, classroom and community space. Its retail space features more than twenty different entrepreneurs. LIVE: Growing Up Healthy Summer Internship (CCCE) (2026). Use your skills to transform communities and build resiliency with our immigrant neighbors. Join Growing Up Healthy in working with Latine immigrant families in Rice County this summer. Join Growing Up Healthy this summer through participating in their Evenings in the Park programming and their Strive Together Cradle to Career program. Spanish and Somali speaking opportunities.

LIVE: Northfield Public Library Outreach and Marketing Assistant (CCCE) (2026) Enable the Northfield Public Library to expand programming and outreach for Adults and Spanish speakers in our community, and provide support for promotion of library programs, services, and resources, and adult and youth programming assistance. LIVE: Sharing Our Roots Farm – Ecological Restoration Internship (CCCE) (2026). Work with us as we envision a world where food and agriculture systems are profitable for farmers, fair to workers, beneficial to consumer health, restorative for rural communities and regenerative for the environment. LIVE: Food Access Intern at the Community Action Center (CCCE) (2026) Spend a summer working with the CAC’s Food Access Program! Go to local grocery stores to recover excess food for distribution, work with local volunteers and clients in the Food Shelf, and support the daily operations and community outreach of the CAC’s three Food Shelves. Working at the Food Shelf is a hands-on opportunity to get involved with the Northfield community and learn more about food access behind the scenes. Address food insecurity working with the Food Access Program team, the Summer Food Access Intern will provide direct client services and support the overall operations of mobile food distributions, assist with the daily operations of the Food Shelf, as well as continue to advance CAC’s community outreach within the Northfield area. Closed Pending Hire: City of Northfield, Planning and Zoning Internship (CCCE) (2026). This internship focuses primarily on Planning and Zoning work. Planners work with many different stakeholders to shape development within the city to meet the community’s desire for future growth. Current and upcoming projects include: Land Development Code rewrite, 5th and Washington Street Redevelopment, private development projects, grant applications and administration, implementing the 2045 Comprehensive Plan, transit and transportation planning, community engagement, historic research and more. As time permits, the intern may be able to explore a specific project related to their interests and the needs of the Planning Department. Specific project areas may include: mapping and data visualization, historic preservation, grant management or writing, translation/interpretation, community engagement, assisting with the update to the city’s LDC, quantitative and qualitative research, program administration, and zoning code development. Closed Pending Hire: City of Northfield, Community Development Intern (CCCE) (2026). The Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the Housing Redevelopment Authority (HRA) are vital components of the Community Development Department of the City of Northfield. Joint the team at the city working on: Ongoing EDA working projects include developing/redeveloping government-owned land, increasing the diversity of the city’s tax base, supporting new and existing businesses, and supporting the Main Street America affiliate programs. Ongoing HRA working projects include funding and policy creation of a Local Housing Trust Fund, expanding the City’s Down Payment Assistance Program, developing HRA-owned land, and supporting the Building and Administration Departments with policy regarding the City Rental Licensing codes and ordinances.
