About TORCH at Northfield Middle School

TORCH (Tackling Obstacles & Raising College Hopes) supports Northfield Middle School youth who are potential first-generation college attendees, from low-income families, and students of color.

  • Location: Northfield
  • Join Time: Anytime
  • Commitment: Weekly

At the middle school, TORCH‘s mission is to connect students with resources for success (academic and other) and to prepare them for high school and beyond. TORCH creates opportunities for leadership, service, and college and career exploration, through connections between students, schools, and the community.

The CCCE is looking for student volunteers who would like to tutor TORCH students during the school day. Volunteers are needed in the TORCH office during the school day, 8am–3pm M–Th, to work with students in a wide variety of subjects. To find what times work for you, check Northfield Middle School’s schedule here.

Tutors are also needed after school from 3pm-5pm M-Th at the Middle School Youth Center.

If you are interested in tutoring for the TORCH program or have any questions, please contact Jack Sherrick (sherrikj@carleton.edu).
