Program Description

College Friends matches college volunteers with a resident from Laura Baker, a nearby home where adults with developmental disabilities live. The goal of the program is to foster a relationship with your buddy to aid them in developing skills as well as making them feel a part of the community by having a great friend to talk to and do activities with!

This program offers an enriching experience for both the volunteer and their buddy! Volunteers are paired with buddies based on their interests, including, music, biking, movies, crossword puzzles, etc. Once trained, College Friends get together with their friend every week for about an hour. At least a two-term or year commitment is strongly desired. Laura Baker is within walking distance of Carleton (behind Watson hall).

Past volunteers have felt less homesick because of the strength of their relationship with their friend!

Level of Commitment

This program is a weekly commitment. Volunteers create their own weekly schedule where they meet with their buddies for one hour. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to volunteer for at least two terms to establish a friendship with their buddy. 24 hour cancellations are strongly discouraged.
