5th Year Education Associate Transition: Farewell Maddie and Welcome Eko!

17 May 2023

The 5th Year Education Associate position is a year-long opportunity for a recent Carleton graduate to coordinate and support the community-based work study (CBWS) program, Alternative Spring Break trips, and other CCCE events and initiatives.

Maddie Fry ’22

Maddie Fry ’22 has made lasting contributions to the CCCE this year and we will miss them—their last day will be Thursday, June 8. During Maddie’s time as the CCCE’s Education Associate they created more training and reflection opportunities for CBWS students and initiated a new Alternative Spring Break trip called “Place Based Justice in Rice County,” where students worked with local community partners and learn about food, land, and housing justice issues in Rice County.

Eko Manson ’23

Eko Manson ’23 has been hired as the 5th Year Education Associate for the 2023-24 academic year. Eko will graduate this spring with a degree in Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies. While at Carleton, they were a TRIO and FOCUS scholar and were heavily involved with the Carleton Association of Nature and Outdoors Enthusiasts (CANOE). They translated their love for community building into their work as an RA of CANOE House and with the Summer Liberal Arts Institute—a pre-college program where Eko served as a mentor for high-school students and helped implement the first gender-neutral housing options. Outside of Carleton, they supported the Center for the Study and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence through an externship in 2021 and volunteer regularly at their local cat shelter. Eko is excited to start working with the CCCE to help connect Carleton students with opportunities to work in the local community!
