With the funding support of The Broom Public Scholarship grant, I participated in a workshop titled “Culture Meets Geopolitics: Transpacific Dynamics Projected on Taiwan Screens” at the University of California, San Diego, August 20-24, 2018.
I attended the scheduled film screenings and engaged in deep conversations with faculty members and graduate students regarding the sociopolitical ramifications of contemporary Taiwan cinema. During these conversations, I shared my research findings on Taiwanese idol dramas through the lens of geopolitical studies.
My participation in this workshop also prepares me to co-edit a special issue focusing on geopolitics and Asia for ASIANetwork Exchange: A Journal for Asian Studies in the Liberal Arts. All essays for this special issue, when published, will be openly accessible online and thus enrich current understandings about geopolitics and Asia.
