Spanish-language engagement opportunity

22 April 2010

The Rice County Solid Waste department, which handles recycling and trash services in Northfield and around the county, is looking for someone to translate their new information packets into Spanish. They have recently realized that their written resources for Spanish-speakers are extremely limited, and are looking to work with a Carleton student to make sure that this important information reaches the county’s growing Hispanic population.

ACE is looking for a student that would be willing to take on this initiative as an independent study or a for-credit academic internship. In addition to helping build sustainable practices within Rice County, this project is a great way to develop hands-on skills at translation in a governmental context.

For more information, contact Adrienne Falcon at Academic Civic Engagement (afalcon, x5748) or Silvia Lopez (slopez) in the Spanish Department.
