Spring term is in full swing at the CCCE. As the second day of classes came to a close, the CCCE and Carleton Chapel hosted an evening panel titled “Motivations for Engagement and Action” featuring six students from the CCCE, the Chapel, the Gender and Sexuality Center, and independent organizations. The participating students were Meg Crenshaw (CCCE and Chapel), Robert Harris III (Heart of the Heartland and Ethiopian Off-Campus Studies Stove Project), Caroline Sheffield (GSC), Christian Purnell (CCCE), Stephanie Valle (CCCE), Ibad Jafri (The Chapel).
Conversation began with panelist presentations and eventually launched into discussions covering reasons for asking “Why?” in community advocacy, the limitations of engagement, and the importance of treating advocacy and engagement as dynamic activities worthy of constant reflection.
Following the panel, the students and adults in the audience enjoyed pizza and lively small group discussions building on some of the key themes presented.
