The Northfield Arts and Culture Commission is looking for a student to help conduct a study examining the economic impacts of the arts community on Northfield. The goal is to show the City and the public the large accumulated benefits that the entire region receives when cultural institutions have access to funding and support. From theatrical performances to casual music at the Cow, the arts are a public amenity that increase the value of Northfield for both residents and visitors.
In 2006, Minnesota Citizens for the Arts conducted a study that found an 11:1 return on every dollar invested in the arts around Minnesota. However, the Commission would like to demonstrate the particular contributions made by the arts community in and around Northfield.
An interested student could help perform this study as part of a for-credit independent study or academic internship. This project would provide experience analyzing community economics while assisting an important part of the Northfield-area community.
