8 October 2010

The Academic Civic Engagement office is pleased to be hosting Edward Zlotkowski, noted author of numerous books on academic civic engagement, during the week of October 11. A pioneer of methods integrating academic learning, community involvement, and leadership development, Professor Zlotkowski will be involved in a number of events throughout the week.

On Tuesday, the Teaching and Learning Center will be hosting Zlotkowski for an event entitled “Why Very Good Is No Longer Good Enough: Remaking Liberal Learning for a Diverse, Global Society.” It will be held at 11:45 AM at the Alumni Guest House.

On Thursday, he will be presenting in Leighton 402 on “Reflection, Assessment and Grading in Academic Civic Engagement Projects.” The event is co-sponsored by ACE and the Career Center.

Edward Zlotkowski is a professor of English at Bentley University and in 1990 founded the Bentley Service-Learning Center.  He received his B.A. in English and his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Yale University.  He writes and speaks extensively on a wide range of service-learning and engagement-related topics, and served as general editor of the American Association for Higher Education’s 21-volume series on service-learning in the academic disciplines. Attached is one of his recent articles on leadership and civic engagement.
