On Thursday, March 29, the Broom Fellow co-sponsored an event with Student Advocates for Reproductive Choice (SARC). In line with the Broom Fellow’s focus on social inequality, Erica Gerrity, Program Director and founder of the Minnesota Prison Doula Project, Raelene Baker, Program Coordinator for the organization, and Mariah, a woman who has been incarcerated in Minnesota, were invited to campus to discuss reproductive justice for incarcerated women.

Before attending her first class at Carleton College, Rachel Gallagher (’18) knew she wanted to supplement her college career by volunteering with individuals who have special needs. Inspired by a friend from high school who had autism and an aunt who worked in the Philippines with children who have special needs, Rachel researched offerings through Carleton’s Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE), and then signed up with Laura Baker Services Association’s College Buddies program.

Motivations for Engagement and Action Panel
29 March 2017Spring term is in full swing at the CCCE. As the second day of classes came to a close, the CCCE and Carleton Chapel hosted an evening panel titled “Motivations for Engagement and Action” featuring six students from the CCCE, the Chapel, the Gender and Sexuality Center, and independent organizations.

Tsegaye Nega’s personal mission to bring affordable, efficient cooking stoves to Ethiopia grew into a massive interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together a diverse group of Carleton faculty, staff, and students.

National Public Health Week (April 3rd-10th) brings together communities across the country to celebrate health, to recognize the contributions of public health, and to highlight important health issues. Carleton and St. Olaf, through a Broadening the Bridge grant, are sponsoring a series of talks and activities on both campuses focusing on mental wellness through a public health lens.
