Community Workshop: “Mosaic Flowers: Honoring Forgotten Legacies”

Thu, October 17, 2024 • 5:30pm - 7:30pm (2h) • Alumni Guest House, Rm 141

Join us for a unique community workshop that blends art, history, and connection!

“Mosaic Flowers: Honoring Forgotten Legacies” is a hands-on workshop facilitated by Twin Cities-based professional genealogist and public artist Mica Anders. The goal of this interactive workshop is to uncover the hidden stories of Rice County's early African American residents (1850-1900) and make mosaic flower memorials to honor their legacies.

Participants will:

  • Create mosaic flower sculptures in a collaborative, welcoming environment
  • Connect with diverse community members and descendants of early residents
  • Contribute to a meaningful public art installation at historic gravesites
  • Explore the lives and stories of early residents in Southeast Minnesota

No artistic experience necessary – all are welcome! We are offering two sessions of the same workshop, one mid-afternoon and another early evening.

Light refreshments provided. Registration Link.
