Applied externships offer Carleton juniors and seniors valuable, real-world experience during winter break. These programs connect students with time-bound roles, typically lasting one to three weeks, to help them develop skills within a specific job industry. In these externships, a Site Host provides students with an applied project opportunity or active shadowing that aids in their career exploration. Internships serve as a pipeline that connects Carleton students with real-world work experiences. Interns are mentored by hosts and will be supported by the Career Center to maximize engaged learning and professional development throughout the internship. Using Handshake, you can post internship, project, research, or job opportunities for students to apply for and receive valuable experience. We can also create a virtual or in-person interview schedule to make the process as easy as possible. For the 2025-2026 academic year, Career Discovery Week will encompass a series of alumni career panels centered around careers one can pursue with a specific strength or skill. A two-part series for students to acquire behavioral interview skills in the spring term. Part 1 – a workshop introduction to interviewing; Part 2 – students are matched with an alumni volunteer for a mock interview.
