In honor of Carleton’s Climate Action Week (April 21-26) and Northfield’s Earth Day (April 26), Carleton’s Career Center is taking this opportunity to highlight climate careers.
The world is increasingly focused on finding solutions to climate change. You and your student might be surprised to learn that a career fighting climate change isn’t just for scientists, but rather there is demand for talented individuals across many different industries. Climate careers need thinkers, communicators, business minds, and creative problem-solvers from all academic backgrounds – including the diverse fields of study offered at Carleton.
To help your student explore this dynamic career field, the Career Center is partnering with College to Climate to offer a special virtual workshop: “Find a Job in Climate.”
This engaging virtual session will:
- Introduce the seven key sectors shaping the climate landscape.
- Reveal the diverse range of career paths available.
- Demonstrate how the liberal arts education provides valuable skills for these roles.
- Offer insights from young professionals already working in climate.
- Provide a platform for discussion and connection with peers.
Workshop Details:
- Date: Monday, April 21
- Time: 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. CST
- Format: Virtual (Registration required via Handshake for video call link)
About College to Climate: Founded by recent college graduates wanting to help the next generation find their place in the climate movement, the College to Climate team has experience in various climate industries, from technology and finance to communications and engineering. They are adept at connecting with students and making climate careers accessible and achievable.
Also during Climate Action Week, Matthew Fitzgerald ’14, owner of Fitzgerald Organics, will be on campus sharing his career path in farming, agricultural business, and technology through the Career Center’s CarlsChat program. CarlsChat brings students interested in a specific job or industry face-to-face (or via Zoom) with alumni experienced in that field. Carleton students can schedule a 30-minute one-on-one with Matthew between 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24. Students are invited to join Matthew for lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.
You can support your student’s exploration in this field by asking them about their interest in climate solutions. Remind them that the Career Center offers valuable workshops and guidance for career exploration and landing a job. Encourage your student to attend the Find a Job in Climate Workshop and Matthew Fitzgerald’s CarlsChat and/or luncheon. Also, if your career (or someone you know) has connections to sustainability, sharing those experiences could offer valuable insights.
