Explore Biomedical Research Through the Study of Pharmacology
Thu, October 9, 2025
• 11:30am
- 1:00pm (1h 30m) • Sayles Tables

Pharmacology, often mistaken with Pharmacy, is the study of how drugs act on biological systems and how those systems respond to the drug. Pharmacology integrates the knowledge of many disciplines, including medicine, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, pharmacy, etc.
If you are interested in:
- Developing new drugs to treat or cure diseases
- Discovering new druggable targets
- Learning about the properties and novel indications of drugs already in use (drug repurposing)
- Investigating the effects of environmental pollutants in human health
- Using drugs as probes to study cell and organ system functions
- Exploring how genetic variation impacts drug disposition and efficacy (pharmacogenomics)
Then the Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics Graduate Program at the UMN could be a good fit for you.
Stop by the table and talk with Dr. Ezequiel Marron Fernandez de Velasco, PhD, to learn more about the program!
