Career Exploration: Nature-based Early Childhood Education, 1:1 with Sarah Besse ’12
Are you interested in early childhood development and curious about the field of nature-based early education?
Meet with Carleton alum Sarah Besse ’12 to learn about her journey founding and growing Boston Outdoor Preschool Network and to explore career possibilities in the field.
Boston Outdoor Preschool Network (BOPN) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on nature-based early childhood education. They are committed to nature immersion, interest-led learning, inquiry-based teaching, and authentic play. Their school year and summer programs are offered to toddlers, preschoolers, and pre-kindergartners at seven sites across eastern Massachusetts.
Boston Outdoor Preschool Network is currently seeking interns in Boston, Malden, Milton, Sherborn, and Sudbury, MA.
Their unique programs foster environmental stewardship and community building, encourage creativity through play-based learning, and model persistence in problem-solving. At BOPN, children engage with the natural world—building confidence and resiliency, boosting social-emotional well-being, and developing habits of thought for future growth while finding joy in a delightfully muddy childhood.
