Breakthrough Minneapolis at Blake Tabling at Sayles
Breakthrough Minneapolis at Blake, formerly LearningWorks, is part of the national Breakthrough Collaborative that comprises 24 sites across the U.S. and one in Hong Kong. Its overall mission is to launch high-potential middle school students on the path to college, while also inspiring talented high school and college students to pursue careers in education.
At Breakthrough Minneapolis at Blake, they achieve this mission by using a “students-teaching-students” model. During their nine-week summer programming, about 18 talented college students work as teachers, advisors, and mentors for 75-80 middle school students from Minneapolis Public Schools, all under the guidance of veteran professional teachers. Breakthrough teachers are creative, diverse, intelligent, and motivated. They represent many academic and personal backgrounds, but share a commitment to students and closing the opportunity gap. They are in the process of recruiting college students for their summer 2023 fellowships and would love for you to apply!
Stop by the tables at Sayles and talk with Lauren Melzer, Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Lauren recruits, hires, and trains the fellows.
