Expanding Diversity in Economics (EDE) Information Session
The Expanding Diversity in Economics Summer Institute (EDE), is a University of Chicago program hosted by the Becker Friedman Institute. EDE is designed to identify and support talented undergraduate students from a broad range of backgrounds interested in the study of economics. The goal of the program is to diversify students majoring in economics, who may go on to a graduate program of study, or a career drawing on this important skill set. EDE participants engage in skill-building coursework, daily lectures, and other activities to inspire learning and promote networking.
Participants receive $1,200 compensation ($2,400 for Pell Grant recipients) for a successful completion of the 3-week program.
Grace Bassekle ’24, a sociology/anthropology major, participated in EDE’s inaugural cohort in the summer of 2021. Entering Carleton as a prospective economics major, Grace was intrigued by the 3-week program and applied in the winter of her freshman year. The program was a great opportunity for her to meet economists with varying research expertise, learn fascinating economic concepts, and converse with like-minded students from similar backgrounds. Participating in the program has encouraged her to explore more economics classes at Carleton and a potential career in the field.
Consider attending this session to learn about the innovative summer program at the University of Chicago (UChicago), and their initiative to advance diversity in the field of economics. Engage with EDE staff and hear about the exposure, experience, education, and skills participants receive from this transformative summer experience. Pizza will be offered. Please register if you are planning to attend.
