LinkedIn: What’s the Big Deal?

11 June 2009

Relationships Matter is LinkedIn’s tag line. Carls Help Carls is our new career center’s tag line. Hmmmm…so what’s the big deal?

The truth is, a professional network of trusted contacts gives you an advantage not only in your career, but also in your life! It is, and will continue to be, one of your most valuable assets. LinkedIn was created to help people make better use of their professional networks.

LinkedIn’s mission is to connect the world’s professionals to accelerate their success. Our biggest initiatives in the career center right now involve connecting students with alumni and parents so that strong professional relationships are created to accelerate success.

Every student yes, every student, should create a LinkedIn account. Include any professional experience/work in your background in your profile – internships are perfectly fine! There is even a Carleton Alumni group with over 1,000 alumni already connecting and discussing career-related topics, which no doubt will offer great perspective and insight to the professional and working world.

It’s easy to do, especially for all of those in the millenial-facebook-twitter-iphone-generation. Here is a link to an article that will take you through a step-by-step process in creating a solid, helpful and professional profile:
