We are excited to announce the launching of our new zooarchaeology lab on campus, the Carleton Archaeological Research Collection of Animal Specimens (CARCAS).

The lab is a joint research project with the Archaeology Program, the Cowling Arboretum, and the Makerspace, and includes a dermestid beetle colony, an osteological comparative collection, and an online digital repository of 3D scans of the collections.
CARCAS’s mission is to better understand the relationship between humans, animals, and the environment, today and the past. Our collections will be used to identify animal bones found in archaeological excavations around the world.
