What do UTC-5 and UTC-6 mean?

UTC stands for Coordinated Universal Time. It’s a time standard that’s useful for communicating with people around the world. Each time zone of the world is behind or ahead of UTC by a number of hours (or, in a few cases, is the same as UTC). Some time zones have a different UTC offset at different times of the year.

Central Time is five hours behind Universal Coordinated Time (abbreviated as UTC-5) during Daylight Saving Time and six hours behind Universal Coordinated Time (UTC-6) during Standard Time. See timeanddate.com‘s clickable map of the world’s time zones for more information.
