Evelyn M. Anderson Hall, Carleton’s new integrated science center, will open to students and the public on September 16 (the first day of classes). The facility is designed to draw in the campus community and encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration.

When Sebastian Tovar ’18 (Houston) was considering his college options, he feared that his family could never afford a college like Carleton. Then came a fateful call with great news from the admissions office.

The 2020 Internship Match is a combined gift of $5 million from Bill ’55 and Susan Buffett and Barbara Weitz ’70 and Wally Weitz ’70 and their family that will create a dollar-for-dollar matching fund for donors who commit outright gifts ranging from $50,000 to $1 million to establish or add to an existing endowed internship fund.

Although many of her classmates were headed straight to graduate school after Carleton, Hiyanthi Peiris ’15 wanted to head into the workforce. But her Carleton education had given her such diverse skills that her choices seemed overwhelming.

When Stuart Yi ’20 arrived for New Student Week at Carleton, he jumped at the chance to meet as many classmates as possible. About 150 total, he says. Yi grabbed a Zoobook and counted.

As a student playing varsity volleyball and training for the Carleton Triathlon, Ailsa McCulloch ’12 always liked active, hands-on work — so science at Carleton was the perfect fit for her.

Music, Rich Kracum feels, is an essential component of a liberal arts education. Performing and enjoying music at Carleton — and sharing those moments with his wife, Laurie — were an important ingredient to Rich’s student experience. Now, as an expression of their love for music and Carleton, the Kracums have made a signal gift to the college in support of the Kracum Performance Hall.

The great thing about Carleton, says Marcus Lee ’99, is that years after graduating, you can be anywhere in the world — say, walking downtown in Singapore — happen upon a fellow Carl, and instantly have a connection.
