Pre-clinical models of respiratory dysfunction in epilepsy and synthetic opioid overdose
Mon, October 10, 2022 • 3:30pm - 4:30pm (1h) • 141 Olin
The growing opioid epidemic continues to plague our country, and neurological disorders such as epilepsy remain an intractable problem. Dr. Matt Hodges, PhD, Carleton ’98, professor of physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, will return to campus to present his scientific work focused on how repeated seizures or synthetic opioids negatively affect cardiorespiratory physiology. Uncovering pathophysiological mechanisms in these models may provide druggable targets to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) and test novel drugs as countermeasures in the fight against opioid overdose.
