Valerie Gonzalez is an investigative reporter based in Pharr, Texas, unraveling complex issues and uncovering human stories from the Texas-Mexico border. At a time when there is a general distrust of the media and its portrayals, Gonzalez works to bring perspectives from both sides of the international border as well as across languages. That means she has to nimbly navigate not only data and analysis but also translate these experiences for communities from varied backgrounds. As situations, issues, and policies change, Gonzalez is on the ground watching and reporting on these changes.
