Kayla graduated with a degree in Cinema and Media Studies with a minor in East Asian Studies from Carleton College. Following graduation, she immediately started working in the freelance film and television world as a production assistant and production coordinator. Starting out on Indie Productions, she went on to work for shows and movies such as 21 Bridges, Bull (CBS), Y: The Last Man (FX), and Harlem (NBCUniversal).

When the entertainment industry came to a radical halt with the pandemic, Kayla shifted her focus to digital advertising where she now works as a digital producer for a creative advertising company, helping produce content for companies such as Pepsico, JetBlue, Blue Moon, and Jim Beam.
