Convocation with Scott Wopata & Empty Bowls

Fri, May 9, 2025 • 10:50am - 11:50am (1h) • Skinner Memorial Chapel
Head Shot Wopata 2025

Scott Wopata has been many things during his 20+ years in Northfield including, but not limited to, a community collaborator, economist, soccer coach, carpenter, youth pastor, trail runner, and parent of 4 children. These diverse roles have converged in his current role as Executive Director of Community Action Center (CAC) where he focuses on how community systems are built in partnership and collaboration with the participants who access these systems.

Scott oversees and weaves together layers of programs as diverse as food shelves, emergency shelters, environmental justice, economic development, and net-zero energy construction through his role at CAC. The organization has grown to support the basic needs of more than 16,000 individuals in Rice County with its grounded, human-centered, and interdisciplinary approach.

Scott was awarded the City of Northfield’s 2024 Human Rights Award. He is the fastest Minnesotan to run the Superior 100-mile trail race. And CAC was awarded the MN Climate Adaptation Award for Climate Justice Leadership.

This convocation will also be presented as a virtual webinar. Please register in advance if you would like to attend via Zoom. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
