Moin Syed Presentation "How Master Narratives of Good Science Constrain Psychology"

Thu, February 13, 2025 • 4:00pm - 5:00pm (1h) • Olin 141

Master narratives are culturally-shared stories that guide thoughts, beliefs, values, and behaviors. They represent normative, largely invisible, structures that are informative about what it means to live a "good life" This interperative framework can also be applied to scientific psychology, providing insights into how and why the field has gone wrong over the past 70 years.

This presentation will include an overview of the master narrative framework, followed by a set of arguments and examples of how master narratives have limited the progress of psychology.
