Artist Catherine Nelson discusses the influences of dance and landscape in her current practice.
Catherine Nelson is an interdisciplinary artist originally from Louisiana. Curious about materials and their origins in the landscape, she collects, observes, and composes using wood, natural dyes, metals, found objects, and drawings. She has exhibited internationally, most recently at Goodyear Arts in Charlotte, NC and the Kniznick Gallery at Brandeis University (Waltham, MA).
Nelson has participated in residencies including the Women’s Studio Workshop and Vermont Studio Center. She earned her BA from Duke University and her MFA from the University of Connecticut, and she continues to explore materials and gesture in her current role co-managing the fabrication shops at the Yale School of Art in New Haven, CT.
