It's National Poetry Month and TRIO & OIL want to celebrate first-generation, low income, and disabled poets!

TRIO & OIL are hosting a Poetry Night on Thursday, April 24th at Goodbye Blue Monday Coffeehouse in downtown Northfield. Doors will open at 6:15 PM and the student open mic will start at 6:45 PM, followed by a performance from our featured reader and Carleton TRIO/SSS program alum, Chavonn Williams Shen '15, to close out the night!

Students will be given one free beverage ticket (this ticket will not apply to smoothies or bottled beverages), and additional menu items will be available for purchase. Treats and baked goods will be provided.

RSVP (not required, but helpful!) & Sign-up for an Open Mic slot (optional, but encouraged!) via this google form.

Chavonn Williams Shen (she/they) is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were a 2022 McKnight Writing fellow and a first runner-up for The Los Angeles Review Flash Fiction Contest. They were also a Best of the Net Award finalist, a Pushcart Prize nominee, a winner of the Loft Literary Center's Mentor Series, a fellow with the Givens Foundation for African American Literature, a fellow with Sweeter the Juice, and an instructor for the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop. A Bread Loaf, Tin House, VONA, and Hurston/Wright workshop alum, their writing has appeared in: Diode, Anomaly, Booth, AGNI, and others. Their debut book, Still Life with Rope and River (Finishing Line Press), is out now.

See some of their selected works if you're interested!
