"A Greener Oxidation Pathway: Aminoxyl Mediated Electrocatalysis"
Selective oxidation is a critical process for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and the utilization of biomass. However, traditional large-scale oxidation methods face challenges due to the generation of toxic by-products. Electrochemistry offers a promising green pathway for promoting organic redox reactions without waste, but high energy demand and competitive degradation of electrochemically active functional groups remain obstacles. To address these issues, Dr. Shannon Shahl's research focuses on the use of electrochemical mediators as catalysts to lower energy demands and facilitate selectivity. Join us to learn more about how their innovative approach broadens the toolbox for selective oxidation while addressing environmental concerns.
*This seminar counts towards the chemistry major seminar attendance requirement for all majors not doing comps this year.
