Civil Rights and Southern Jews: Stories from the Field
with Nora Katz '16

Thursday, August 10, 2023
9 a.m. Central Time
via Zoom

Nora Katz '16 is a public historian, writer, and theatre-maker currently serving as the Director of Heritage and Interpretation at the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life (ISJL) in Jackson, Mississippi. In her role, she interprets and shares the history of Jewish life in the American South, with a particular focus on Civil Rights history.

Join Nora for a conversational exploration of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement, life in the Deep South, and the politics of public history.

Originally from rural Pennsylvania, Nora majored in history at Carleton, holds a Master’s degree in Public History and Cultural Heritage from Trinity College Dublin, and serves on the board of New Stage Theatre, Mississippi’s professional regional theatre. Nora’s work includes producing and hosting Southern & Jewish, a video podcast that shares stories about southern Jewish life and culture, and planning and guiding immersive tours that engage travelers in the complexities of southern and Jewish history. She also manages the restoration of Temple B'nai Israel, home to Mississippi's oldest Jewish congregation, which was recently awarded a Save America's Treasures grant from the National Park Service.

Register by Wednesday, August 9 to participate in this Zoom event.

Cost: None.
