John Berini is a visiting assistant professor in the biology department at Carleton. He will discuss the interaction between spatial variation in high summer temperatures, habitat use, and diet and how the relationship between these variables influences winter survival in the Minnesota moose population.

The North American moose (Alces alces) is a cold-adapted species that has recently experienced population declines at various points along the southern edge of its range. In northeast Minnesota (NEMN), the moose population declined by more than 65% from 2006 to 2018, and the combined effects of poor nutrition and high temperatures may predispose moose to higher risk of mortality.
