Film Viewing - "RISE" featuring Director Akin Omotoso
Join us for the film viewing of the movie "RISE" with special guest, Director Akin Omotoso, a Nigerian-South African actor, director, and filmmaker.
Born in Nigeria and raised in South Africa, Akin Omotoso is an actor, director, writer, producer, and filmmaker. He studied drama at the University of Cape Town and, after graduation, began acting in television, where he was the male lead in South Africa's most popular daytime drama. He has acted in numerous films, including "Blood Diamond," "Shake Hands with the Devil," and "Hector and the Search for Happiness." Among his feature films as writer and director are the award-winning "God is African," "Man on Ground," and "Vaya," which was distributed in the U.S. by Ava DuVernay's company and is available on Netflix. Mr. Omotoso's films have been screened at festivals and on university campuses in the U.S., Africa, Canada, and Europe. He directed the recently released Disney film, "RISE," on the NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. Mr. Omotoso is currently based in Los Angeles.
