Derek's Bio:
Derek oversees Global Strategy for Nuveen Equities and Fixed Income. In this role, he works closely with the investment teams and other teams across Nuveen, including Distribution, Product and Operations, to drive growth of the business with our institutional partners on a global basis.
Previously, Derek was the Head of Strategic Product Development for Nuveen Asset Management, where he oversaw development of retail listed investment products, institutional products and other strategic initiatives. He joined the firm in 2004 as a senior research analyst for the municipal fixed income team and led the municipal healthcare research team. As an analyst, Derek covered hospital and long-term sectors in high-grade, high-yield, and distressed parts of the market.
Before entering the investment industry, he served as the deputy director for Japan Affairs in the Office of the United States Trade Representative in Washington, D.C. He has also been a policy analyst for the National Economic Council of the White House and a coordinator for International Relations for the Department of Commerce, Industry and Labor in Okayama, Japan. He began working in the investment industry in 2004.
Derek graduated with a B.A. from Carleton College and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, and has been a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. He has also served on the Board of the Chicago Municipal Analysts Society.
