Myanmar military coup and its future
Nyantha Maw Lin ’08 has spent his post-Carleton years working at the nexus between business, government, and social impact in a transitioning Myanmar.
He consulted on government, public policy, and political risk over the past decade, and previously led the Myanmar practice of an ASEAN-focused government affairs firm, advising
multinational companies, multilateral financial institutions, and international NGOs. Prior to the February 1st coup, he was involved in various fora on international defense and security issues, and was also regularly
involved in Track 1.5 and Track II exercises elsewhere in the region.
Nyantha also advised on community and stakeholder engagement efforts in Rakhine for a public-private initiative under the civilian government, and was a member of a panel of industry and civil society
representatives convened and consulted by the former Chair of Myanmar’s Anti-Corruption Commission from 2019-2020. He served on the board of several innovative nonprofits, social impact businesses,
and industry associations, and has led a small initiative to regularly convene thought leaders, change agents, and other professionals from politics, industry, civil society, and academia in Myanmar.
Nyantha graduated with a degree in Political Science/International Relations from Carleton College in 2008. He is also an Eisenhower Fellow (2018).
