Verbrugge Lecture

Tue, October 5, 2021 • Olin 149
Dr. Jason Wright, an astrophysicist from Penn State, will visit Carleton on Oct 5th, 2021 to give the annual Verbrugge lecture.
The search for intelligent life in the universe is one of the most profound and exciting problems in science. But even though NASA makes the search for life in the universe one of its top science priorities, and despite the high public visibility of the search, until recently there has been surprisingly little work in the field since it began in the 1960's. I will discuss the recent revival of the field fueled by the discovery of planets around other stars, recent interest by Congress, and the injection of billionaire's money. The discovery of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe has never been closer.
