Football and Track & Field

Winter, an all-state football player from Martinsville (Ind.) High School, is regarded by former football Coach Bob Sullivan as one of the two greatest wide receivers in Carleton history, while his efforts helped the 400-meer relay squad place fourth at the NCAA Championships in 1985. An All-MIAC wide receiver, Winter finished his career with 99 receptions for 1,702 yards and 16 touchdowns. When he graduated, he held school records for most catches in a game (11), reception yardage (190) and for most catches, reception yardage and touchdown receptions in a single season, as he tallied 47 catches for 707 yards and six scores in 1983. All told, he held seven school records in football when he graduated and was named the team’s most valuable player in 1984. He led the 400-meter relay team to a pair of all-conference performances as well and was a three-time letter winner in track and four-time letter winner in football. He still holds the school record for longest reception, 99 yards, in a 1983 contest against Trinity (Texas). Winter graduated cum laude in economics from Carleton and earned his MBA in finance from New York University in 1992. He lives in London, England, with his wife Amelia and two children (Selma and Hugo), where he is the head of European investment banking for Barclays Capital of London. He continues to compete and ran the half-Ironman Triathlon with his wife in 2003. He is an International Advisor to the Carleton Board of Trustees.
