Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track & Field
A native of Red Wing, Minnesota, Harold “Tubby” F. Nordly was the youngest of four brothers who were outstanding high school athletes and the third to enroll at Carleton. He lettered in three sports at Central High School in Red Wing and was named to the All-State team in basketball in 1928-29.
Nordly lettered in four sports at Carleton: football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was captain of the 1932 football team which lost only to South Dakota and Army, and was named to the All-Midwest Conference team both in 1931 and 1932. He played two years of basketball, 1930-31 and 1931-32, as a member of the Victory Five squad. In baseball, he was a catcher, and he led the team in hitting in his senior year. In track, he ran the 440, the 880, the low hurdles, and was a member of the two-mile relay team.
His brothers, Carl ’25 and Oliver ’27, both of whom are also in the Hall of Fame, and his sister, Gertrude ’30, are all Carleton graduates.
