Basketball, Football and Track & Field
Chester Raasch is most remembered as a member of the Victory Five, the outstanding Carleton basketball team which played from 1930 to 1933. The Five won 43 games, losing only five, and those only to Big 10 teams. Raasch was the only underclassman to ever play on the Victory Five. In 1934 Raasch was elected captain of the basketball team. He was chosen as an all-conference MWC center twice. In 1933, although only a junior, Raasch was the second leading scorer for the Victory Five, scoring an average of 12 points per game.
Raasch did not stop at basketball, as he earned one letter in football, despite playing only one year. He also earned three letters in track in addition to setting a long jump record of 22’6″ in 1934.
In addition to his athletic contributions, Raasch served in several Carleton student associations. He was Vice President of his Junior and Senior classes. In addition, he was President of the Philomathian Society.
