Winter '24 | Week 6

  • Biology ’24 Comps Presentation, 2/7, 12:00-12:20, Hulings 120

    In our third comps session of the term, Helen Cross will give a talk titled, “Exploring Voltage Gated Sodium Channels: A Molecular Basis for Epilepsy.” All are encouraged to come support the ‘24 comps class and learn about what they learned about on their comps journey! Cookies will be served and attendance at the session counts for seminar credit.

  • Biology ’24 Comps Presentations, 2/7, 3:30-4:30 pm, Olin 149 and Hulings 316

    Our fourth comps presentation session will be on Wednesday, 2/7, between 3:30-4:30 with 15-minute long presentations in Olin 149 and Hulings 316.  All are encouraged to come support the ‘24 comps class and learn about what they learned about on their comps journey! Attendance for the full session counts as seminar credit and cookies will be served.

  • Visit with nature photographer, author, and filmmaker Dudley Edmondson. 2/9, 4:30-6:30, Hulings 316

    Over the last 32 years, Dudley Edmondson has beome an established photographer, author, filmmaker, and presenter. His photography has been featured in galleries and publications around the world. All students are invited. Pizza will be served!

  • 2024 Chesley Lecture with Patricia Brennan, Mt. Holyoke College, “Oddball Science: Why Studying Weird Evolutionary Phenomena is Crucial.” 2/11, 4:00 pm, Weitz Cinema

    Scientists sometimes seem to study strange phenomena that at first glance may not seem to have an obvious application. These seemingly oddball studies are crucial to foster new discoveries that move science forward.

    The biology of female genitalia has often been overlooked in science, hampering our understanding of the causes and consequences of genital coevolution. By examining female and male genitalia, Dr. Brennan’s lab has uncovered several examples of genital coevolution in vertebrates.
