Nucleus Newsletter Spring '24 Week 5
  • Biology Comps Presentations: Monday, April 22, 2024, 3:30-4:30 pm, Olin 141 and Olin 149

    Our second comps session of the spring will be on Monday, 4/22, between 3:30-4:30 with three 15-minute long presentations in Olin 141 and two in Olin 149. All are encouraged to come support the ‘24 comps class and learn about what they learned about on their comps journey! Attendance at a full session counts as seminar credit and cookies will be served.

    • 3:30-3:50: Nick Lattal, “Human admixture with Neanderthals and Denisovans: the evolutionary legacy of genetic contributions from our close archaic relatives.”
    • 3:50-4:10: Isabella Vazquez, “The impact of heatwaves on temperature-dependent sex determination mechanisms.”
    • 4:10-4:30: Ian Scott, “1 Fish, 2 Fish, Hot Fish, Dead Fish: Effects of Temperature and Flow on Juvenile Pacific Chinook Salmon Development.”

    • 3:30-3:50: Shreya Nair, “A Gut Feeling: Understanding the relationship between Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, the Gut Microbiome and Butyrate.” 
    • 3:50-4:10: Phoebe Sinner, “Fighting a Losing Battle:  Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus vs. the Citrus sinensis immune response.”
  • Biology Comps Presentation: Tuesday, April 23, 2024, 12:30-12:50 pm, Hulings 120

    MJ Strike will give a comps presentation titled  “Water flow as a rescue mechanism for corals during marine heatwaves.” All are encouraged to come support the ‘24 comps class and learn about what they learned about on their comps journey! Attendance at a full session counts as seminar credit and cookies will be served.

  • Biology Comps Presentations: Friday, April 26, 2024, 11:30-12:20 pm, Hulings 120 

    We will have another session of comps presentations on Friday, 4/26 from 11:30-12:20 in Hulings 120. All are encouraged to come support the ’24 comps class and learn about what they learned about on their comps journey! Attendance at a full session counts as seminar credit and cookies will be served.
