Rou-Jia Sung Receives NSF Funding for BiochemAR App

19 April 2019

Assistant Professor of Biology, Rou-Jia Sung, has received NSF funding for a project to develop an augmented reality based app for iOS and Android devices as a tool for teaching macromolecular structure and function — think Pokemon Go, but with protein structures instead!

In collaboration with Andrew Wilson of Carleton’s Academic Technology group, the project team will design and evaluate the impact on student learning of three modules based on the structures of the potassium channel, hemoglobin, and G-proteins. They will work with five Carleton undergraduate researchers over the course of the three-year grant, with the opportunity to attend one conference each year.

The current version of the app, BiochemAR, is available on the App Store and Google Play.
