The journal American Naturalist recently accepted a paper for publication by Mark McKone, Towsley Professor of Biology. The title is “Loss of avian intromittent organs as a sperm competition strategy: a race to be last.” The paper proposes a model to explain the enigmatic loss of intromittent organs in the large majority of bird species. The model was first presented as a Biology Department seminar on September 27, 2021.
