Biology Seminar: Michelle Tong, Macalester College: "Expanding our knowledge of extracellular mechanisms of stability"

“Neural plasticity” has become a widely recognized concept in neuroscience over the past decade, emphasising how our brains change with experience. This idea has influenced various fields, from K-12 education to therapy, where understanding brain changes is essential. However, for our experiences to last, the nervous system relies on molecules that maintain structures and create stability. In this talk, I'll share some recent findings from my lab about extracellular structures called perineuronal nets (PNNs) and their role in ensuring "neural stability," in both health and disease.
