Biology Peer Mentors foster community and belonging among all students who have interests in Biology. They work directly with the department chair to connect with students, identify any concerns about the major that might make students feel excluded, and create a more inclusive and welcoming environment within the Biology department. Peer Mentors do this through visits to classes and relevant student organizations, 1:1 meetings with early-career students, and co-organization of social events and dialogues between students from historically marginalized groups and the department. The application for Peer Mentors is posted during Spring term, at the same time we post applications for SDAs.

This year’s Peer Mentors are Lauren Chauv and Maggie Hu.

Lauren Chauv ’26

Hey y’all, my name is Lauren (she/her) and I am a junior biology major from Houston, Texas! I am currently on the pre-health track at Carleton, with aspirations of becoming a pediatric oncologist. In my free time, I love cooking a wide variety of foods and crocheting hats. I am so excited to meet everyone and be a resource on campus for you this year!

Maggie Hu

Hey everyone, my name’s Maggie (she/her) and I’m a senior Biology and Sociology/Anthropology major from Rochester, MN! Following graduation, I’ll be taking a gap year to do research while applying to MD/PhD programs. In my free time I enjoy hiking, playing piano, and watching dramas. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in biology and being a source of support this year!
