Biology Opportunities

PARE (Program for Advancing Equity for Research) is a research initiative to provide highly talented and motivated junior and senior undergraduate Latinos with a rich experience in healthcare and biomedical research. This intensive 8-week summer research program aims to improve the quality of healthcare by providing students with practical knowledge of research studies and its importance in the healthcare field. Students will be paid a stipend for their participation. Dates of program are June 26-August 18. Applicant must be a resident of Illinois. Applications due by March 24.

Full time position as a Biopsy Technician. Work at Allina HealthCare’s Central Laboratory in its Tenth Avenue Facility connected to the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Full-time: Monday – Friday; 1:00 pm – 9:30 pm.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The biopsy technician works alongside HPA’s accomplished pathologists’ assistants and other healthcare professionals in the laboratory diagnostic process. As a biopsy technician, you will perform gross examinations of routine pathology specimens. A gross exam is the visual inspection of tissue removed from patients during surgical procedures. It involves describing, measuring, and sometimes manipulating the tissue (using ink or sectioning with a scalpel) before submitting it for histologic processing. Gross examination of pathology specimens is one of the first and most critical parts of the laboratory diagnostic process and an integral part of patient care.

The Landick Research Group a recent bachelor’s graduate in biochemistry, micro-biology, genetics, chemistry, or a related field who seeks further training prior to graduate school. We seek a highly motivated candidate with undergraduate research experience who will benefit from learning rigorous experimental science while studying the structure, mechanism, and regulation of the central enzyme of gene expression, RNA polymerase.
