Research Specialist Position
12 April 2022The Marks laboratory seeks an engaged and self-motivated individual to conduct basic science research in the cell biology underlying pigmentation in the skin, hair, and eyes. We use cell culture models, molecular biology manipulations, and a variety of microscopy and biochemical techniques to understand how the products of different genes impact the formation and function of pigment organelles in health and disease. The Research Specialist will work with the PI and/or other lab staff to conduct a semi-independent research project in one of several ongoing areas.

Soil Ecology REU
18 March 2022The Swingley lab at Northern Illinois University is inviting applications for one undergraduate student to participate in a National Science Foundation-supported summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU). The research will focus on soil microbial ecology in tallgrass prairie restorations. The program will run for ten weeks (June-August) and take place primarily at NIU with opportunities to partake in fieldwork at the Morton Arboretum and Nachusa Grasslands. The student will learn the high throughput sequencing process from sample collection to library preparation. In addition, the student will have the opportunity to conduct independent research focused on soil pH.

Summer Outreach Assistant Intern
18 March 2022The MJV is seeking 1-2 Summer Outreach Assistant Interns to support our seasonal outreach efforts. The position is based in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota and travel in the region is required. Work can be partially remote, with in-person required to prep for and staff weekend (Fri-Sun) outreach events in the Twin Cities area. The schedule will include a mix of 9am-5pm work days combined with weekend or evening outreach events. You will not be expected to work more than 40 hours a week; we may consider applicants looking for part-time internships. This is an unpaid position, but we encourage applicants to seek payment from their college internship funding opportunities.
