The Gaither Lab at the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL) is seeking an intern for summer 2023. Our lab is interested in applying genomics to study marine ecology and evolution.
The primary project will be assisting our REU student with using environmental DNA (eDNA) samples collected from water and sediment to explore the life stages of the dinoflagellate that causes red tide, Karina brevis. There will also be opportunities to work with graduate students on the bioinformatic and statistical analysis of population genetic analysis of tropical fish. Skills you can gain experience in are DNA extraction, qPCR, assay testing, use of command line and R based analysis programs, and limited field work. View the HandShake application.
